Wool is Another Word for Love

I have several creative outlets - when I was younger, it was visual art, through to poetry, into photography, and always with an impulse to be craftsy and also to try to make things myself instead of buy them.

So this hobby of felting became a big part of my creative process for my newborn photography, as it started with trying to make my own versions of the “curly layers” so popular right now.

I experimented with wet felting, then needle felting. Exploring different kinds of fiber (alpaca, merino, corriedale, wensleydale, teeswater, leicester)…

I upgraded my tools and started working on more 3 dimensional objects.

I have self-taught myself almost everything along the way, proceeding with trial and error and the forgiving nature of wool, but I was proud of this work to try a new technique of incorporating sculpey into my wool.

Once my kids saw what I was working on, they wanted their own objects. Pikachu Jr is a well-loved member of our family now.

I was finally brave enough to try dyeing my own wool.

One of my favorite things to do now is to make a felted object custom for your newborn session.

If you’re looking for something special for newborn photography on Martha’s Vineyard, I’d love to connect with you!
