Your Children Will Thank You Part 3: Why Yearly Family Photos Matter

In part 1, I talked about why prints matter and in Part 2, I talked about how to get your photos printed. In this installment, I suggest that making a commitment for yearly family photos is one of the most important things you can do as a family.

Committing to getting your family photos done at least once a year of course allows you to see how change happens, but the consistent habit also creates a consistent routine of expectation and your children will understand how you want them to cooperate or be themselves (or both).

Parents do not always change so radically from year to year, but the relative scope of change and growth for the younger set is a dramatic reason to capture them as often as possible. The sibling photo is a precious memento of their connection, their humor, their growing selves.

From the gamut of wedding to baby to big kid (not that it always happens in that order), a yearly family photo allows you to savor each step of your family.

The more I photograph your family, the more I get to know you and the more personalized your family session becomes.

And, of course, taking a yearly family photo makes sure that as your family gets bigger, there are moments of both befores and afters, the family unit in its evolving and expanding.

It’s never too late for your own tradition to start - if you are looking for family photos on Martha’s Vineyard, I would love to connect with you!
